About Vinyl Flooring
There are two types of vinyl flooring: sheet vinyl and vinyl composition tiles (VCT). For our purposes here, and throughout the rest of the sections, we will refer to sheet vinyl simply as vinyl, or vinyl flooring.

VCT has all the advantages of vinyl, is available in a wide array of colors and can look good anywhere. Spare vinyl composition tiles can be kept on hand to repair worn areas, and the VCT format opens up unlimited possibilities for creating your own unique patterns.

However, vinyl flooring also offers you many tempting advantages. In fact, no other floor covering category offers you the selection, styling, ease of maintenance and value as a vinyl floor! Thanks to some great advancements in styling and technology, vinyl floors have been changed forever. Vinyl flooring can now realistically mimic the look and textures of real resilient, stone and wood grain patterns.

These amazing replicas have such incredible realism it is difficult for most people to tell whether it’s the real thing or not. Who needs to know, right? Finally, a note about linoleum, which is not a resilient flooring but the one you probably recall as the original kitchen and bath flooring. While linoleum, because it is a “natural” flooring material, is enjoying somewhat of a renaissance, the most popular floor covering material in this category is vinyl.

Vinyl Flooring Installation
Once your substrate is ready to go, your luxury vinyl floor will be installed. Vinyl can be installed with one of three different techniques: full spread, perimeter adhered, or floating installation.

With full spread installation, installers apply adhesive to the entire substrate. With perimeter adhered installation, the adhesive is only applied to seams and perimeters of the vinyl flooring. Finally, a floating vinyl installation is when no adhesive is used to glue the vinyl to the substrate. As with any other flooring product, it’s important to be prepared. This is why our luxury vinyl specialists at KYFlooring has put together a primer on what you can expect during and after installation day.

During Your Luxury Vinyl Installation

Depending on the type of vinyl you have selected for installation, the process will vary in duration. The two types of installation methods for vinyl are self-stick or glue-down the type of vinyl. The self-stick vinyl is easier to install since the adhesive backing is already on the tiles or planks. The glue-down type will require some more work. No matter what install method you’ve selected, you can be sure that our professionals are experienced in quality and efficiency.

After Your Luxury Vinyl Installation

After installation, you’ll need to make sure your room has good ventilation. You can help ensure good airflow by opening up windows, turning on fans, and taking other steps to air the room out for about 48 to 72 hours. Then, it’s up to you to care for and maintain your new vinyl floor.

Vinyl Flooring Care & Maintenance
Many of today’s resilient (vinyl) flooring are 100% waterproof, making them a great flooring choice for bathrooms, dens, and kitchens.

While many manufacturers offer water resistant technology built into the plank and tile finish, it is still important to wipe away water spills as quickly as possible.

At KYFlooring, our flooring experts put together the following tips on how to care for your new luxury vinyl tiles and planks.

Care and Maintenance:

Frequent care and maintenance of your luxury vinyl tiles and planks can be quickly built into your overall home cleaning routine!

  • For daily upkeep, sweep, dust mop or use a manufacturer approved vacuum cleaner without a beater bar.
  • Place all heavy furniture on protective mats to avoid any scratches and place entry or doormats at the entrance to the room to avoid tracking outdoor dirt and soil across your flooring.

If your flooring needs more than just a dry surface clean, use a manufacturer approved cleaning solution and follow their guidelines. For most approved cleaning solutions, you just need to spray and wipe dry without any unnecessary rinsing or washing.

When it comes to those common household spills, wipe away with a micro-cloth and once dry, follow up with a manufacturer approved hard surface floor cleaner to keep your floors looking great! For tougher household messes like wax, gum, or nail polish, consult with your manufacturer guidelines for approved stain removal tips.
